WEBSTER'S definition of the word "temperance" couldn't be any further from the truth when speaking of Hi-Bias Records artist, TEMPERANCE.
Since their inception in 1994, TEMPERANCE has approached music with a passion and hunger for success like no other Canadian talent has yet managed to achieve.
Do six consecutive national top ten charting dance singles, 7 consecutive Juno nominations, four MuchMusic Video Award nominations and a MuchMusic Video Award victory, all from one artist's debut album, sound too good to be true? Well, good was never what TEMPERANCE had in mind-they wanted spectacular! Their first album, "VIRTUES OF LIFE", released in 1995,attained all these incredible feats and more. The single, "Forever Young",
was also released in the United States in the summer of 1997, and immediately won the hearts of many new fans and critics south of the border. With their import follow-up single, "Lost In Love", and their extensive touring and publicity schedules, the popularity and appeal of TEMPERANCE has spread quickly, creating great anticipation for their second album release.
Being in the studio for the majority of 1999, TEMPERANCE is back stronger than ever with an outstanding new album, "IF YOU DON'T KNOW". loyal fans. Lorraine Reid, lead vocalist of TEMPERANCE at the young age of 23, has contributed her writing skills to "IF YOU DON'T KNOW", and has taken on a more proactive role in the group. She has gained the respect and recognition she so rightfully deserves while establishing herself as a true emerging vocalist on the brink of worldwide success. Collaborating with some of the industry's best writers and producers, Lorraine has showcased her rich and soulful voice in new directions, including R&B and Pop. Being an emerging Canadian artist can have its strains on life, but Lorraine's advice for all up-and-coming artists is simply, "Be optimistic and don't give up. Even before the release of "IF YOU DON'T KNOW", TEMPERANCE had already garnered acclaim for two of the singles from this album. "Hands of Time" won a SOCAN award for having hit #1 on RPM's Dance Chart! It reached #2 on The Record's national Dance Chart, and also gained enough CHR airplay to crack the top 40. The video for "Hands of Time" was nominated for both a Juno Award and a Much Music Video Award. The follow-up, "Dancing in the Key
of Love", also went top 40 on the CHR chart, and peaked at a very impressive #4 on The Record's Dance Chart.

TEMPERANCE's live performances have also grown in the sense that they are no longer just a 'club' act or 'tracks act', but rather true emerging "live" musicians/artists on the verge of international success. Much Music chose TEMPERANCE as the sole performing musical act of their MUCHDANCE '99 national tour with MuchMusic host, Rick 'The Temp'. During the frigid winter of 1999, TEMPERANCE also performed on the Electric Circus/Bouge De La sixth annual Winterlude concert in Ottawa.
