Canadian recording artist “Sherrie Lea” has tipped the scale on the Canadian Dance Scene! As a country, we have seen one hit wonders and dance acts emerge, but not with the lasting power and impact that has come from Hi-Bias Records. Based in Toronto Canada, Hi-Bias Records - under the operation of Nick Fiorucci - has torn the scene numerous times with hits from past projects, and is making his mark again with the beautiful ‘Sherrie Lea’.
The cd is an overwhelming feel good collection of upbeat club focused dance tracks, all with the potential to be clubs hits and several with the potential to be #1 single release chart toppers.
Starting the cd off is probably one of Sherrie Leas most well known tracks: ‘No Ordinary Love’. Topping the CHR Top 40 Hit and taking Canada by storm, this is a stellar remake of Sade’s hit. The cd – like a great book – takes you from a sensation of wanting to smile, laugh, dance to ending with chillout recordings and great fist pumping remixes of current and soon to be released tracks.
I found myself having to stop and re-listen to tracks like ‘Spellbound’ , ‘You Can Count On Me’, and ‘Blown Away. “Over My Head”, penned by Canada’s Golden Boy Bryan Adams , ‘Spellbound’, ‘Nothing Better Than Life’ and her USA hit ‘Anyways’ surpass any expectation that I previously had before listening to this great Canadian Dance Record!
What keeps this debut album from ‘Sherrie Lea’ fresh and up to date is the way that Hi-Bias constructed each single. While other dance artists are mimicking what is current now, selling their souls for the chance to make airwaves, Hi-Bias did some soul searched and the result is great. Fusing new and old sounds into each track, takes the listener through a journey of time when dance music was about throwing your hands in the air and singing along. No one knows this better than Hi-Bias! Tracks like ‘Nothing Better Than Life’, ‘Anyways’ and ‘Spellbound’ make for perfect driving tracks and are equally suitable for club play.
Never giving to much of a good thing, but rather a perfect balance of vocal delivery, rolling melodies, and simple production makes each of these songs a contender for single success.
